S-100 – Geospatial Standard for Hydrographic Data
· S-57 is the hydrographic standard for all digital data
· S-100 provides the data framework for the development of the next generation of ENC products, as well as other related digital products required by the hydrographic, maritime and GIS communities
· S-100 products display and function as required by users in S-100 ECDIS. Standards and testing must ensure the required level of consistency and reliability
· S-100 is based on the ISO 19100 series of geographic standards. This means that S-100 based data is compatible with data created according to the relevant ISO standards
· S-100 came into force on 1 January 2010
· Within S-100 there are a number of product specific standards including S-101
· S-101 will be the new ENC product specification
· To support S-101 the UKHO would have to change the way it creates ENC data
· New S-100 kernels would have to be developed
· Currently there is no ENC data available in S-100/S-101 format
· It is expected that it would be at least 5 years before the S-101 standard comes into force (at the earliest)
