When the user makes a manual correction or edit on an ENC, the ECDIS is designed to display a message on the screen to show that the ENC can no longer be considered as 'Official'. The changed area may also be surrounded by orange boundary line symbols. For more details see Chart 5012: "ADMIRALTY Guide to ENC Symbols used in ECDIS" and NP 231: "ADMIRALTY Guide to the Practical Use of ENCs".
If the user manually adds any correction information or changes to the route to display on a FURUNO ECDIS, it is treated as an ENC on top of the Official AVCS Chart ENC. The 'Non-Official' label may then appear.
Provided that the user has made a manual correction as described, and provided no non-official cells have been loaded, the "Non-Official" label and an associated orange boundary is not a cause of concern. The underlying chart data from AVCS will always be Official, and can be used for navigation with confidence.
